SMALL FEATHER (Make 2)

Step 1: Cut one (1) long 24 inch (60.9 cm) strand. This is your base where you will attach the smaller strands. In my sample it is a chocolate brown colored strand of yarn.

Step 2: Cut eighty (80) shorter 6 inch (15.2 cm) strands. These are the feather “strands”. Consider cutting a little 6 inch rectangle from left over card board or ruler to make cutting easier.

Step 3: Fold the base strand in half. At the top fold make a knot, leave a 1 inch loop so you can use it to attach the feather.

Step 4: Secure the base strand to a surface with the masking tape or with a clipboard

Step 5: Fold a small strand in half. Place it under the base, below the knot. The loop of the small strand will be on the right and the “legs” on the left.

Step 5: Fold a second small strand in half. Place the “legs” of the first strand through the loop of the second small strand. This will leave the loop of the second stand under the legs of the first strand, on the left hand side. Then place the legs of the second strand through the loop of the first strand. This leaves the loop on the top and the legs on the bottom, on the right hand side.

Step 6: Pull on the legs on both sides. This will create a knot the will close up tighter as you pull on the legs. Pull that up as close to the knot as possible.

Repeat steps 5-6 until you run out of short strands. You should be left with about two inches of the base without any strands.

Finish: With your hands, from the top, guide the strands downward to shape the feather. If necessary cut some of the short strands on the sides.
Spray the feathers with water, shape them with your fingers and let them dry overnight.

LARGE FEATHER

Step 1: Cut one (1) long 28 inch (71.1 cm) strand.

This is your base where you will attach the smaller strands. In my sample it is a chocolate brown colored strand of yarn.

Step 2: Cut one hundred and four (104) shorter 6 inch (15.2 cm) strands. These are the feather “strands”. Consider cutting a little 6 inch rectangle from left over card board or ruler to make cutting easier.

See Steps 3-Finish Above

Attach all three feathers, with the larger one in the middle
